Diablo 4: Season 2 will feature more diverse builds

Since the advent of Diablo 4, the standard way to unleash maximum damage has been to double your damage stat. By counting these numbers, you can get a huge number that you can use to bash your enemies. However, things changed in season two.

Blizzard announced during the CAMPFIRE CHAT livestream that they are changing the calculation method. Your goal isn't astronomical amounts of damage, but rather having a wider range of character building options. This means throwing out the old and bringing in the new.

If you've searched the internet for Diablo 4 build guides, you may have come across similar advice. It's about increasing critical damage and vulnerable damage. Critical hit damage and variable damage percentages can sometimes reach over 150%, stacking like a chef's special burger, turning your attacks into million-point hammer blows against bad guys.

But the parade is about to get a new update. Starting from October 17, "Season of Blood," critical damage and weak point damage bonuses will be combined into one, using a fixed percentage. Gain a 50% bonus on critical hits and a 20% bonus on hits against weak enemies. In other words, the era of astronomical numbers is over, and the maximum will reach 80% (1.5 x 1.2).

This change loosens the grip that dual stat builds have on the game and shakes everything up. It's not all doom and gloom, however. We're still motivated to mix up these stats in a way that suits your play style. Additionally, this change, along with other recent quality-of-life improvements, will hopefully inject some much-needed variety into the game.

As lead class designer Adam Jackson explained during the stream, Blizzard's goal isn't to weaken you into oblivion, but to level the playing field. They're making a game around this new setting in Season of Blood. They also adjusted the threat of monsters and added some damage bonuses. It's all about balance and inviting players to take a more diverse approach.

This change will likely only take effect once you reach level 50 and are deep into the endgame of Diablo 4. But there is no need to worry. Blizzard aims to extend this design philosophy into future seasons. The aim is to provide players with a wide range of viable builds from the start.

Season 2 also takes this diversity into account by introducing a range of vampire powers. Hopefully we won't see everyone clinging to the same evil heart like we often saw in season one.

So mark October 17th on your calendars. Diablo 4 Season 2 is about to launch, and it looks like it's going to be a game changer.
